Piri Reis/Bahriye

Eşsiz bir kartograf ve denizci olan Piri Reis, 16. yüzyılda yazdığı Bahriye isimli kitabında ziyaret ettiği Akdeniz limanlarını anlatır. 1526 tarihinde bu kitabı Osmanlı Sultanı Kanuni Sultan Süleyman'a hediye etti. O tarihe kadar böyle detaylı bir eser yazılmadığından, denizciler çıktıkları seferlerde onun kitabını kılavuz edindiler. Piri Reis Bahriye’de, Akdeniz limanlarına ve buralarda yaşayan halka dair pek çok coğrafi, tarihi, sosyolojik özelliklerden, yeraltı zenginliklerinden ve su ürünlerinden detaylı bir biçimde bahseder.

Beyond comparison a unique cartographer and sailor Piri Reis, wrote a book called Bahriye in the 16th century where he explained the Mediterranean harbors he has self visited. In 1526, he gave this book to the Ottoman Sultan, Kanuni Sultan Suleyman as a gift. Until that date, there hasn’t been written a book of this kind before in the history. Therefore the sailors used Bahriye as their only guide in the sea. In this book, Piri Reis explains in details about the geographic properties, historical background, social life, underground treasures and the aquaculture of the Mediterranean sea and its people.
